Your mission may not appear to include ‘heritage’. Rightly, you want to create a better future by building homes and communities, mining natural resources or developing essential infrastructure. Nevertheless, compliance is required by international agreements; state agencies, financial stakeholders, and even local communities. Compliance requires engagement with aspects of cultural heritage: archaeology, historic buildings, landscapes or living culture. Moreover, shareholder value may be influenced by your sensitivity to cultural heritage.
Our role in this process is to work with you and other relevant stakeholders to identify what is important about the past, in order to help you to incorporate those aspects of the past which these groups see as important into your plans for our global future.
Your mission may be explicitly about cultural heritage and community building. You may be trying to conserve and enhance heritage features, such as historic buildings, landscapes and archaeological sites. Often finding new uses for things, and widening engagement with people, are two sides of the same coin. Nexus Heritage is deeply committed to community engagement in all aspects of cultural heritage and the historic environment.
Our role is to work with you, communities and other stakeholders to transform heritage liabilities into heritage assets – places that are valued by people and provide a sense of identity. That process itself can bring many benefits in education, community building and social inclusion.
